I am about to purchase a Swift to use on the Broads. I was thinking of fitting an A frame as there arelots of bridges but have seen other devices that appear to do the same job. Could any give me further information?
I owned various yachts including trailer sailers, but never bothered about A frames for stepping a mast.
All you need is a block attached to your bow. Feed a sheet from your forestay through the block to your cockpit.
A crew member can slowly release the sheet, preferably using a winch, whilst you stand on the deck and lower the mast.
This works well for a smaller trailer sailer.
I did this successfully on my old 17ft Silhouette and my present Manta 19. Good Luck.
