Hello, I am considering a number of boats as a family day sailor which has the potential to do more if need be. I am currently looking at the Enterprise, GP14′s and Wayfarers. People have said that a fiberglass Enterprise would be easier to launch compared to a GP14 or Wayfarer, however ‘may’ be just two small for 2 adults and 2 small children to sail in together. I would appreciate anyones comments on this. Many thanks in advance.
A Wayfarer before either of the other two. Stable, forgiving, multi-purpose, no slouch and it can camp-cruise two adults. Get an old Series 1 ‘woodie’ to start with and you can add lots of sanding, varnishing and painting over winter. Real sailing!
All would be large enough for 2 adults + 2 children, however the GP14 and Enterprise would be quite cramped. You should also consider a Wanderer which is very like a Wayferer that has been shortened by about 2 feet.
Hi,
Please please feel the weight of a Wayfarer before buying the woodies are seriously heavy, recovering single handed from tidal water is a challenge for the young and fit.
Agreed they are lovely boats, wuth one other problem and that is also capsize recovery single handed, both the GP and Ent are much easier. if your duck pond sailing and like the more sporty ent then go for that, if your tidal water sailing then a GP. Both are quite capable though.
