Dinghy Sailing For Beginners

Hi.
I have just taken up dinghy sailing and am very much still a novice. In the future though I am planning to buy my own boat. Can you recommend a boat that I can handle on my own but, will also be suitable (when I’m ready) to take my wife and two young sons out on. I will be looking for a used boat from about a thousand pounds upto two thousand. Another consideration is my height, I’m six four. Any suggestions will be most welcome. Also can you recommend a a good training boat for me, the club Toppers are just too small.

Laser Dinghy Rig

I have a laser dinghy ( 141679 ) which I bought some years ago but never used. It has a 3.8m sail. I am now planning to sell it and need to advertise it accurately. I am not sure whether it has a full sized rig. Are you able to tell me the dimensions of the various rigs, please.

RS Vareo Dinghy

Hello please can you help me. As a novice I am buying my 1st boat. The one i’m looking at is a RS Vareo with a sail number 434 on this site. Can you tell me what the sail number indicates? Is it regarding its age and therefore a influencer on price? Many thanks for any assistance

Trailer Sailer Towing

I have recently purchased a small trailer sailer, boat length 17′ 0″ The previous owner had the mast unstepped and laid on top of the boat with approximately equal lengths overhanging front and back. The mast is about 25′ 0″. Is there any reason I can’t trail the boat with the mast lowered but still stepped in the tabernacle? Obviously the mast would overhang the rear of the boat by about 15′ 0″ with this arrangement. I can find nothing in the towing regulations against this.

I have nic 26 and she does sail like a dream. Can anyone tell me what the mast height is and also her handicapp (sorry if spelling is wrong). Would that be the same as the contessa 26?
